Normal ovulation and luteal function are associated with a biphasic basal body temperature. When patients have their prolactin levels and periods restored to normal with bromocriptine therapy, their temperature charts demonstrate the normal biphasic pattern When therapy is withdrawn, the temperature chart shows a monophasic pattern, becoming biphasic again on reinstitution of bromocriptine.
